Latest Online Advertising industry research findings point to a clear fact:

Website visitors (= Your prospects, customers or referrals) are SICK-TO-DEATH of banners, pop-ups, pop-overs, pop-unders, hover-ads, fly-ins, bouncing ads, wriggling ads, smart-ads, video-flash ads,

People feel so aggressed and annoyed with all this online advertising bombardment.
Most sites display too many ads, often banners in multiple colors and with flashing effects.

It tires out their eyes, and they learn to simply ignore the visual noise.
This is termed "Selective Vision". In simpler words: their mind chooses to not see your ads.

Let's face it: Way back in 1996, when Internet just born, (as was my sweet daughter Camille),
people would be amazed just to see a banner.

They'd think you were a genius to know how to build one.
They'd wanna click it just to see how it worked.
They loved messy sites.

However, +11 years later , what with information-overload and having to prioritize our time like never before, we see most people hardly looking below the fold and looking at an average site they land on for maybe no more than - heck, 8-12 seconds.

That's why some AdSense Junk-Sites make their owners so much money; They suck so badly, people jump on first outbound link they can lay their mouse upon to escape. So Adsense is placed at top of these pages….

However, if that's not your game, you need to better monetize your site in face of this growing "Ad-Blindness".

So we look for latest trend, gimmick or eye-catching trick.

Most are boring and simply re-hashed variations of yet another annoying ad:

  • They don't serve to reduce the 'visual noise pollution' on your site
  • Rather than sophisticated, your site ends up looking cheesy and salesy.
  • They still take up far too much valuable real-estate on your pages
     
  • Your visitors feel defensive & on guard, when forced-fed with ads. Doesn't do much for trust-building.
     
  • And if you're promoting your products via other sites and affiliates-
    Your stuff doesn't stand out and is lost amongst the general cacophony of colors and flashes…

   
What all this means, as Richard from peelawayads puts it:
"They're Probably Running From Your Site Like from A Bad Smell!"

Advertising Is About Attracting More Sales - NOT Scaring them away…

Right?!?

Yeah, sure….  But how can you:

  1. Be different, stick out from the rest of the pack so you're more noticed,
    so that your ads get clicked and you make more money?!?
  2. Keep the ad-pollution down to bare minimum?

You can't really blame your visitors, (or those of your affiliates/ referring sites) 
for growing ad-blind; After all, all they want is the content/ information.
What they're after the advice or service. Not your pitch.

WELL THEN, WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?  

The less ads they see on the page (and the better the content is) the more trust they'll feel towards you.
The more the trust the more open they'll be to your offers.

But naturally we all want to MAKE MONEY with our campaigns and/or with our sites.

So I'm not silly and not suggesting you stop ADVERTISING or putting up ads on your site.

No, What I'm saying is, do so more CLEVERLY.

Do it in a way which makes your visitor "OPT-IN" to see your ad.
Give his or her the choice to "DISCOVER" it and to check it out.

Simply put: You need non-obtrusive, BETTER CONVERTING ADS.
